Work of Professor Igor Konieczny's team has been published in the prestigious scientific journal Nucleic Acids Research

We are pleased to announce that the work of Professor Igor Konieczny's team from the Intercollegiate Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk has been published in the prestigious scientific journal Nucleic Acids Research (NAR).

The article, titled "PolyP inhibits CobB deacetylase triggering a regulatory coupling to prevent DNA replication initiation" is the result of a few years of work by the team. The publication describes a new mechanism for controlling the initiation of chromosomal DNA replication in bacterial cells subjected to stressful conditions. For the first time, it has been demonstrated that polyphosphate synthesized during stress inhibits deacetylase activity. Consequently, this increases the level of acetylation of the initiator protein and prevents its binding to the DNA replication initiation site. The experiments described in the publication were performed in collaboration with the team of Professor Jolanta Zakrzewska-Czerwińska from the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Wrocław. The authors of the publication from the MWB are Ewelina Boguszewska, Zuzanna Hirsz, and Magdalena Sroka, who contributed equally to the publication, and Katarzyna Bury, Weronika Chmura, and Igor Konieczny, who is the corresponding author. The authors from the University of Wrocław are Agnieszka Strzałka, Marta Kołodziej, and Jolanta Zakrzewska-Czerwińska.

Publication in NAR is an international distinction. The journal has an IF (5-Year Impact Factor) of 16.8. According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, an article published in NAR is worth 200 points.

We sincerely congratulate the entire team and wish them continued success.
